Bao-an Temple 保安宮

inside the Bao-an Temple in Taipei City

I consider the Bao-an Temple (大龍峒保安宮) to be Taipei's most beautiful. The temple was established in 1742 while the present structure dates back to the early 19th century.  A great deal of effort has been put into preserving and restoring the temple. It received an honorable mention at the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award in 2003.

The deity of the temple is Baosheng Dadi. He lived in the 9th century and was a doctor well known for his healing powers. The temple's annual parade is held on the 14th day of the 3rd lunar month. The diety is taken on a route around the neighbourhood of the temple. The 15th day of the 3rd lunar month is the deity's birthday celebration. detail of roof beam in Bao-an Temple, Taipei

The temple is located in the Datong District of Taipei at 61 Hami Street (台北市哈密街61號). It is about 15 minutes walk from the Yuanshan MRT Station. Next door is Taipei's Confucius Temple (孔廟) which is also worth a visit.
