The World Games has a short history of only 25 years. The World Games was established by 12 non-Olympic sports federations in 1980 in the Netherlands. It was hoped that this event would provide a global competition arena for non-Olympic sports, in order to attract media attention, raise funds, enhance the sports popularity and develop a variety of sports. Same as with the Olympics Games, the World Games is also held at quadrennial intervals. However, as the World Games sports are completely different from the Olympic sports, the World Games is event dubbed the “Olympics of non-Olympic sports”.
