Casino Referendum Panel

Date:
Tue, 2012-07-10 14:30 - 17:30

The Taiwan Foreign Correspondents Club will host a panel and Q&A on the fallout of the July 7 Matsu casino referendum.

The Matsu poll is the first outlying island referendum on casinos since a vote in Penghu rejected them in 2009. Whether the referendum passes or not, it represents both a controversial milestone for outlying island development and a test of President Ma Ying-jeou’s ability to deliver on promises to a small but strategically sensitive electorate.

Our speakers are experts on reform of gambling policy in Taiwan and will talk about the background to the referendum, the political and commercial impact of the result, and ramifications for cross-strait relations.

Panelists include:

William Bryson
Partner, Jones Day law firm

Marcus Clinch
Of Counsel, Eiger law firm

Anita Chen
Park Strategies

The panel will be moderated by TFCC President Martin Williams, Asia Editor for Gambling Compliance Ltd, and there will be ample time for questions from TFCC members. We look forward to seeing you there.

Plus: You may pick up your new TFCC/Taiwanease membership cards, which entitle you to a series of discounts at restaurants and businesses across the Taipei region: http://www.taiwanease.com/vip

This referendum would be ligit had we not had this fraud character join and bribe the poor people of this island. I head TW CID is looking at his record to see if his claims are real or fraud.
