A trick I use to learn to read Chinese is to copy internet articles and use the HanWangKaiMediumChuIn font. This font will list the zhu yin phonetics along side the characters. A pretty cheap (read 'free') way to gather reading materials and has worked for me.
Works only with traditional characters and not for simplified, but if you are in Taiwan, there isn't any real reason to learn simplified unless you want to read mainland Chinese websites and printed material.
