News about cycling in Taiwan

5 May 2007 is Bicycle Day in Taiwan. I have added it to the events calendar at Taiwanderful. The Executive Yuan has declared that the first Saturday in May every year shall be Car Free Day (無車日). This is out of line with the International Car Free Day which is held on 22 September. However, hopefully events can be held on both days in Taiwan.

The following details about the event come from the China Post , 12 April 2007:

The Bicycle Day cycling event in Taipei County will take place at 8:30 a.m. outside of the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology, while that of Taipei City will set out at 9:00 a.m. on Renai Road between the city government building and Jingfu Gate, Yang said.

I don't have any information about events outside Taipei, but I will add them to the events calendar if they become available.

In more exciting news for cyclists, a film about a young man cycling around Taiwan will be released on 27 April 2007. The film is called Island Etude (練習曲). More details about the film at the film's blog. You can also see a trailer for the film there.

This movie follows another movie about cycling in Taiwan, The Road in the Air (單車上路), that was released last year.
