2011 Taiwan Best Blog Awards : Voting Now Open!

Taiwanderful Best Taiwan Blog Awards 2011 - Voting Now Open!

Voting has now started in the 2011 Taiwan Best Blog Awards. Anybody can participate in the online voting and there is no need to register. To vote go to the Taiwan blog directory (also checkout our map of Taiwan blogs) and browse through the blogs. Voting will run from 10 to 30 December. The winners will be announced on 31 December.

Most important - it's all for the Taiwan blogging community

The whole purpose of this awards process, the reason that we're going into the trouble of running this, is to promote the Taiwan based blogging community. If you're a blogger, please use this opportunity to write a post recommending and linking to other blogs you like. If you're a reader, take this opportunity to promote the blog you like on social networks and recommend the blogs to your friends. Try and link to the actual blogs, not to Taiwanderful, they are the ones who need your support and your linking and social promotion will help boost their exposure.

Take this opportunity to introduce our little Taiwan blogosphere to the world. People should become aware of the remarkably high quality bloggers we have here and the unbelievable work they do.

Joining in late

If you're a Taiwan blogger and you caught this blog awards after voting opened, it's never too late, you can still join in. A couple of our winners last year joined in pretty late. So simply add your blog to the Taiwan blog directory and start competing.

Voting style

The voting uses a Digg style positive voting mechanism. You can vote for as many blogs as you like. However, you can only vote for a blog once every 24 hours from a specific  IP address.

Who's Winning?

To see who is leading the current vote count, you can check the Taiwan blog directory sorted by votes.

Peer-judged awards

In addition to the popular online voting there is also a peer-judged section in the awards. Any person that has a Taiwan-related blog can vote in this section of the awards (not just those whose blogs are registered at Taiwanderful). Voting is via an online form. If you would like to vote just send an e-mail to Craig (craig@craigfergusonimages.com) to request the link to the voting form. Some Taiwan bloggers have already been sent an e-mail inviting them to vote. The deadline for voting is 30 December, the same as for the popular online vote.

Categories

In addition to the best overall award there are category based awards. There must be at least two blogs in a category for an award to be made. The current categories for blogs at Taiwanderful are listed below. The categories may be adjusted slightly before voting begins depending on the number of blogs entered in each category.

  • General
  • Other (was integrated with language and tech)
  • Personal
  • Photography
  • Politics
  • Travel

In addition there will also be awards for the best blog by geographical region -- northern, central, southern and eastern Taiwan. However, this section will be decided by popular online vote only.

This year we'll also add an award for the most social blog that gets the most Facebook Likes / Twitter Tweets / Google Plus +1's on their blog's Taiwanderful page (which can be seen on the right side of the Taiwanderful webscreen).

Prizes

Yes, we even have prizes. This year is the first time we'll have some prizes to give Taiwan's best bloggers. Dreamwater Asia are offering a free float in their flotation tanks to the overall winner as well as each category winner. These floats are valued at NT$2000 each.

Phottix have offered a set of their Phottix Strato II Multi flash triggers to the winner of the photography section.

We'll also be giving away 3 copies of a Taiwan paperback book - Keeping Up With the War God  (Taipei Times review), written by Steven Crook, our very own prolific Taiwan travel blogger-writer. Steven is also offering the winners 3 licenses for his soon-to-be-released Taiwan guide mobile app - "Taiwan for culture vultures", a new project that continues his work in the recently published Taiwan travel book by Bradt.

Notes

If you have any difficulties registering you can ask questions in the Troubleshooting and FAQ forum .

If there is only one blog registered in a category there will be no award in that category. However, the blog is still eligible for the overall award. Taiwanderful may make some slight adjustments to the blog categories if there is not enough blogs eligible for the award in some category. Some blogs which are listed at Taiwanderful may not be eligible for the awards because they haven't been recently updated, are not Taiwan related or their primary language is not English.

Please note that we've temporarily disabled the ability to edit your own blog page to prevent blogs from jumping categories. If there's anything you want change, contact us.
